1sts win 18-16 to progress to second round of Senior Cup

In a match that finished a 7.45 in almost total darkness Chosen Hill defended heroically for the final ten minutes as Matson threw everything into wave after wave of attack as the looked to get any score to regain the lead.
Playing down the slope Matson opened strongly and went 7-0 up after just six minutes when they kicked a penalty into the corner and drove over from the resultant line-out.
Chosen replied with a penalty goal from Andy King and then took the lead when centre Scott Claridge raced towards the line only to be halted by a head-high tackle which resulted in a penalty try being awarded. King added the conversion for a 10-7 lead but two penalty goals from Matson gave them a 13-10 interval lead.
Ten minutes into the second half another penalty increased Matson's lead to 16-10 but then Chosen full back Ryan Rennebach forced his way over for an unconverted try to narrow the gap to just one point.
As the match entered its final fifteen minutes Chosen lost two players to the sin bin for offences at the lineout but somehow they held out and when they moved downfield King landed a penalty goal to give them an 18-16 lead.
In a pulsating final ten minutes Matson got over the Chosen line twice but each time they were unable to ground the ball and the home side held out for a well deserved victory.
