Chosen Hill’s recent run of good form continued and despite losing to fifth placed Sidmouth by six points they controlled much of this match and were unlucky not to score in the closing minutes.
Chosen got off to a good start and soon had points on the board when flanker Tom Gyde crossed for his side’s first try, converted by skipper Andy King. They continued to play with confidence and King, playing at outside half, then crossed for tries number two and three, converting both. Sidmouth replied with a couple of tries of their own but King, who was in immaculate form with the boot landed two penalty goals for a 27-22 half time lead.
In the second half Chosen’s penalty count began to rise and the home side took the lead. Chosen’s forth try came from second row Marc Riddel, again converted by King but the home side reached the forty point mark with just minutes remaining.
Chosen brought on second row replacement Craig Hopton and he was soon in the thick of the action as his side strived for the winning try. In injury time Chosen centre Matt Elston got within a metre of the line and scrum half John Wand wipped the ball out looking certain to score but the referee adjudged that the ball had been knocked on and the opportunity to snatch victory was lost.
The two bonus points that Chosen picked up, one for scoring four tries and one for keeping the score to under seven points meant that they maintained their ninth place in the League and next Saturday they have a home fixture against St Ives with a 2.30 kick-off
