Chosen Hill’s form continues to improve and in a very close match they restricted league favourites Hornets to just two tries, the second of which was added during injury time.

Hornets, who five times this season have scored more than forty points and who fielded a huge front five, must have thought that this would be a routine win for them but Chosen have been improving week on week and in this match they demonstrated that they have the ability and confidence to match any team in the league.

Hornets opened the scoring after ten minutes when their winger intercepted a long Chosen pass and raced in from sixty metres for a converted try. They increased their lead a few minutes later with a penalty goal before Chosen got their first points on the board after fifteen minutes with a penalty goal from full-back Ashley Lewis.

Chosen were without experienced prop Dave Revell and were under pressure in the set pieces but they showed great resilience as they kept themselves in the game with solid tackling and some neat attacking moves one of which led to in-form centre Josh Pettifer crossing for a try converted by Lewis to make the half-time score 15-10 to Hornets.

A penalty goal from Hornets after fifty five minutes increased their lead to eight points but Chosen were still very much in the match and Lewis cut the deficit to just two points as he landed further penalty goals after sixty and seventy five minutes.

A tense final five minutes saw Lewis miss a penalty that would have put his side in the lead but, after a mass scuffle involving both teams and with injury time being played, Hornets managed to grab their second try to ensure victory.

For Chosen, who gained their first bonus point of the season, this was another step in the right direction as they re-build their team and the only downside was a serious jaw injury to centre Phil Halstead.

Next week Chosen are at home to Keynsham who sit just one place and one point above them in the table. The match at Brookfield Road kicks off at 2.30pm.
