On a cold and windy day with the pitch in a sticky condition Chosen, who had first use of the slope, opened the scoring after seventeen minutes when number ten Andy King landed a penalty goal. Harlequins drew level on the half hour with their own penalty goal but Chosen finished the half strongly when in-form full back Ashley Lewis ran in a try wide out with King adding the conversion for a 10-3 half-time lead.
Two minutes into the second half Harlequins ran in a try after a couple of uncharacteristic missed tackles allowed their winger the freedom to cross near the corner. The conversion levelled the scores at ten points all.
Fifteen minutes later and under pressure inside their own twenty –two Chosen opted to run the ball out of defence and in a flowing seventy five metre move, forwards and backs combined well to send Lewis racing in for his second try. King converted to restore the seven point lead.
Chosen’s third try came from a similar sweeping move that involved almost the entire team and ended with flanker Ryan Collier touching down wide out. King, who was having a good game with the boot, landed the conversion from near the touchline.
Chosen then lost centre Josh Pettifer with a hand injury but waiting to come on was number eight Stu Hendry who gratefully accepted the opportunity to display his all round talent by slotting in at centre and within five minutes of his arrival he bulldozed his way over for Chosen’s bonus point try which King converted.
With ten minutes left Lewis got his third try of the afternoon after Hendry had powered his way out of his own twenty-two and made a good thirty metres before shipping the ball to his supporting full-back who dotted down out wide. King again added the extras to give his side a twenty eight point lead.
Chosen’s sixth and final try came after eighty minutes. Now playing with so much confidence and flair, the home side produced another spectacular team try, this time scored by winger Jamie Gamble who crossed in the corner. King added the difficult conversion and Chosen were able to celebrate a second-half of rugby that was the finest seen all season.
Next week, Chosen travel to Burnham on Sea for another league match.
