A big crowd turned up to watch Chosen’s last home game of the season and they were treated to sparkling display of running rugby from the home side who ran out worthy winners over Cirencester.

The days when Chosen started the season back in early September with a five point deficit and defeat at the hands of Cirencester now seem a distant memory as since December, and under the guidance of coach Chris Mc Neil, they have completely turned their season around , with this victory moving them up to forth place in the league.

Playing up the slope, Chosen got their first points on the board after ten minutes when they won turn-over ball as their forwards shoved the Cirencester eight back just outside the visitors twenty-two and quick hands and a lovely break by young winger Tom Darby sent full back Ashley Lewis charging over for an unconverted try.

Much end to end play ensued as Cirencester made good use of the slope but they could not break down Chosen’s solid defence and as half-time approached Chosen skipper and number eight Dean Barnard finished over a forward drive with a fine try near the posts converted by Lewis.

Cirencester then had a penalty goal opportunity but the kick was missed and Chosen took a useful 12 – 0 lead into the break.

With the advantage of the slope, Chosen started the second half with a wonderful team try from around the halfway mark. The forwards won clean lineout ball and it was quickly shipped to centre Dale Rennebach who made a searing break and sent winger Tom Darby speeding away to touch down with Lewis adding the extras.

On sixty minutes Cirencester finally opened their account with an unconverted try from their left winger and they soon added a second after a quick tap and go penalty just inside the Chosen twenty-two but this was to be their final score as Chosen, to the delight of their supporters, finished off the match in style with two more converted tries in the final ten minutes.

First, number ten Mike King, who showed considerable promise in the position normally occupied by injured elder brother Andy, made a fine break and the ball went quickly out towards the wing where full back Lewis entered the line and used his pace to outstrip the visitors defence for his second try which he then converted.

Then Lewis added his third try of the afternoon as again he got on the end of a flowing backs move and dotted down under the posts with the simple conversion bringing his personal match tally to twenty three points but more importantly ensuring that Chosen finished off the season with a confidence boosting victory that bodes so well for next season.
