Chosen Hill got their season right back on track and moved off the foot of the table with a fine all round team performance against fifth placed Old Bristolians.

Bristolians Longwood Lane ground is proving to be a happy hunting ground for Chosen as it was here, seven years ago, that they clinched promotion from Gloucester Premier, and this win could yet prove decisive as they look to progress up the table and consolidate their Western Counties North status.

Under the guidance of new coach Chris McNeil, Chosen are making weekly progress and he was full of praise for his side after they took the lead and were always in control of this re-arranged match.

Chosen’s team included three sets of brothers in Andy and Mike King, Marc and Ian Riddel and Tom and Pete Gyde and the family connection was further extended with the inclusion of father and son partnership Kirk and Ashley Lewis.

Chosen took the lead after twelve minutes when flanker Tom Gyde crashed over for the first of their five tries. Number ten Andy King knocked over the conversion and seven minutes later added a penalty goal to extend the lead.

An unconverted try in the corner from Chosen winger Ed Higgs took the lead to fifteen points but on the stroke of half time Bristoians gave themselves some hope with an unconverted try.

Three minutes into the second half Chosen centre Josh Pettifer danced his way over for try number three with King adding the extras.

Bristolians responded almost immediately with their second try, this time converted but Chosen maintained their momentum and restored their fifteen point advantage whilst also earning a bonus point when flanker Ian Riddel crossed for an unconverted try.

With full time approaching, Chosen’s fifth and final try came from Jamie Gamble after the forwards had won quick ball at a ruck and it was swept out to the flank for the winger to race over and dot down. King added the conversion to seal a fine all round team performance.

Next week, Chosen are at home to Avon, a side they have never played before. The match kicks-off at 2.30.
