Following on from last weekend’s home win over Matson, Chosen continued their impressive performances of late with another bonus point win, this time away at Burnham on Sea.

This was a match re-arranged from earlier in the season and Chosen were missing three of their regular first team players but the current strength of their squad is such that replacements were able to slot straight in and although it took the team time to settle, by the start of the second half they were in a position to take control of the match and move on to a comfortable five try victory.

Burnham were fielding a young side that included four of their Colts and they were full value for their 14 – 7 half time lead having run in two converted tries in the first half hour before Chosen full-back Ashley Lewis powered over for his sides opening try just before half-time. Number ten Andy King added the extras to leave them just seven points down.

As the second half began the skies opened up and a constant downpour did not auger well for an open match but to the credit of the Somerset Society referee he took account of the conditions and allowed the game to flow when ever he could.

Chosen drew level with a try from number eight Ian Riddel converted by King and then they took the lead when Lewis crossed for his second try, again converted by King. Burnham managed an unconverted try to keep them in contention but then King himself went over near the corner but he missed the conversion.

With time running out the impressive Lewis, who scored two tries last week against Matson, then raced in for his hat-trick try in the corner. King missed the conversion but a victory that moved them up into fifth place in the table, was already assured for his team.

Next week Chosen are again away when they travel to take on forth placed North Bristol, a side they narrowly lost to back in mid November.
