Chosen lose as size does count!!

Turkey farmer score only Chosen try.

It was a lovely autumnal day as Chosen took on a Widden second team at Tuffley Avenue, having struggled to get a side together the relief for myself and Pat Phillerson was audible as the seconds declared their game was off, audible because I shouted f***ing great!!!! Even though we only had 5 help us out.
The game started as I hoped it would, as a struggling comedic journalist, as Briefcase, from the kick off, missed catching the ball letting it bounce under him, some how?? And the ball almost disappeared up his bottom!!!! This led to a scrum in our 22, the scrum did not look like our strong point as we moonwalked towards our line, it was only from some great last ditch tackles from Nanny, Tim , Kai that stopped a try, eventually being cleared by ‘the case’ but not finding touch, this led to a Widden counter attack which gave them chance to unleash, Zorba, who, on a great line sliced through the Chosen attack to score from halfway!!! Chosen moved up a gear now, playing much better but a bit loose, as ball was stolen from them, passed to their winger who was a bit like an Afgan Hound , who loped with a massive stride to score, at 12 -0 down Chosen needed to tighten things up, and did attack a little but were brought down and were losing possession , giving Widden the chance to use their fast backs. Widdens last try of the half came from a pick up from their 6 foot 12 inch number eight who, despite attention from Scott, Lewis and Nick ‘Double Barrel ‘ managed to stretch and score. Widden were always on the attack from their steady set pieces and it was only some great tackling from Bailey, James and Tim that kept them out for more points before the second half.
Chosen made a few changes that might steady the ship, Dallard at number 8, yes, number 8 , Mini buz , Kieran all came on, but it stemmed the flow but couldn’t stop the scoring. Chosen gave their backs room and it played into their paws, as the Afgan scored again. Some people say size doesn’t matter ( my missus does) but it does, we were still moonwalking in the scrums but at least Dallard could tidy things up a little, which proved helpful as the ball was moved along the Chosen line , when Minibuz chipped over salvaged the ball from the fullbacks falter, passing to Harry Mathews who sprinted to score Chosens first!!!
A minute later Ben Fogle Lodes ( back from his adventures) made a great break scything through gaps, only to be tackled on the 22 .
The highlight of the game, for me, was, the look on Nick ‘Double Barrels face as I brought him on at second row !! But like all of the thirds he just got on with it, I think he called me ‘a winker’, or something like that!!!
Chosen were a spent force now and a couple of consolation tries by Widden at the end sealed their deserved victory, but we had some good new recruits to work on Todd, Charlie, Fin all played their part and we would like to see you all again, maybe against a weaker side as I felt that Widden weren’t bad outfit.
Final Score 41 – 5 ( but they were at home!!!)
Next week , at home v Westbury on Severn, please make yourselves available, or contact me or Phil.
