Happy New Year - A Good Start To 2014

After being without a game or training session since the middle of December Chosen Hill travelled to Widden to take on a mixed U9/10s team in what turned out to be high quality match especially taking into account the soggy ground and bitterly cold wind with both sides producing very good performances.

In the first game Widden came out on top 7-4 with Chosen Hill's scores coming from fine individual efforts from Alex Schofield, Harry Johns (2) and Ben Pritchard.

The second game saw both sides making several changes due to the sizes of both squads available and one change saw Daniel Laverton moved from his usual position on the wing to control the game from flyhalf and he took to it like a duck to water scoring two tries and, after Kobe Pope had gone close to scoring, produced a wonderfully timed pass to release Fergus Thomas to score on his debut. A further score from Jai Robinson, after good interpassing by the team, and another long range effort from Harry Johns gave a final score of 5-3.

The final game was another full bloodied affair with both sides carrying the ball strongly and putting everything they had into the tackles with Chosen Hill eventually coming out on top 5-2 with Harry Johns (2), Daniel Laverton, after a strong carry and offload by Joel Biddlecombe, and Ben Pritchard (2) sharing the tries between them with Ben's second try being a length of the field effort for the last play of the game after the Chosen Hill defence had repelled repeated attacks.

Although competitive the game was played in a good spirit and was excellently controlled by the referee who let the game flow wherever possible. For Chosen Hill Alex Johnson was prominent in defence throughout and Joshua Preen and Daniel Laverton were excellent at the breakdown securing numerous turnovers. Next week we are away to Bream so hopefully the boys can back this performance up with another high class showing.
