8 Try Dan is the Man

Game 1
Chosen Hill 8 (4) vs Matson 5 (3)

Chosen Hill opened the scoring when after putting together numerous phases Daniel Laverton spotted space down the blindside and cut back against the grain and dashed to the corner for his first try of the day.

Matson scored the next two tries after strong carries from their forwards to take the lead but Chosen Hill were soon level when a fine break by Alex Johnson was well supported by Alex Schofield who in turn supplied the onrushing Daniel Laverton with a well timed pass for him to collect his second try and he completed his hat-trick moments later when he managed to turn the ball over at a breakdown near to his own line and race away to regain the lead for his side.

Matson were not behind for long and struck back with a try through their strong running centre but Chosen had the last say of the half when after strong defence forced an error Harry Johns swooped on the knock on to dart over the line to regain the lead.

The second half began with Matson scoring a well worked try after good offloading and inter-passing between their forwards and backs to once again tie the scores before Chosen Hill worked the ball wide for Ben Pritchard to power up the wing to score. This was soon followed by a tries for Ewan Riddel, after Alex Schofield offloaded following a Harry Johns break, and a fine individual score for Daniel Laverton after he produced a delightful show and go which fooled the opposition defence.

Matson once again hit back before Ewan Riddel had a little snipe from the base of a ruck and fed Daniel Laverton for his fifth try of the game. Matson continued to press and would have had the final score of the game had Alex Schofield not chased back and completed a try saving tackle in the corner wiping out the corner flag in the process.

Game 2
Chosen Hill 7 (3) vs Matson 7 (5)

The second game began exactly the same as the first with Matson scoring first before Chosen hit back through tries through Joel Biddlecombe following a strong carry from Billy Vaughan and then Alex Johnson after a break by Daniel Laverton.

Matson scored the next two tries to retake the lead before Louis Hammond cut a lovely line before getting tackled and realising he was just short of the line managed to offload from the floor to the supporting Daniel Laverton who tied the scores although Matson finished the half the stronger and scored two further tries.

Matson scored the first try of the second half to increase their lead to 6-3 before Chosen struck back through Daniel Laverton (twice) and Harry Johns following another superb pass from Alex Schofield. Again Matson hit back to take the lead for what they must have thought was the winning try until with time running out Ewan Riddel made a break up the blindside from a 5m scrum to score in the corner to make the game all square.
