CHOSEN HILL FP 39 MIDSOMER NORTON 36
By Roger Locke
14 points to 5 down after fifteen minutes, Chosen quickly turned things around to charge into a commanding 39-17 lead before conceding three tries in the final seven minutes of this gripping 12 try all-action match
Midsomer Norton had first use of the Brookfield Road slope but it was Chosen who took the lead after five minutes when number eight Tom Harvey made a powerful break before releasing winger Jamie Gamble who crossed wide out for the unconverted try.
The visitors responded with converted tries after ten and fifteen minutes for 14-5, but Chosen flanker Tom Gyde finished off a forward drive with an unconverted try in the corner. Five minutes later centre Ryan Rennebach crossed for Chosen’s third try and number ten Andy King’s conversion put them back in the lead at 17-14.
Gyde’s second try on the half hour brought up the four try bonus point but King, who was having a bit of an off-day with the boot, missed the conversion. A penalty goal from the visitors saw them go into the break just 22-17 down
Five minutes into the second half Gamble crossed for his second unconverted try and then fellow winger Tom Darby raced over with King converting for 34-17.
On the 60 minute mark, Harvey was rewarded for all his efforts with an unconverted try to make the score 39-17 and whilst the Chosen supporters thought that was job done, Midsomer Norton refused to give in and three late tries, two of which were converted, brought the score to 39-36 before time ran out.
The victory cemented Chosen’s seventh place in the league with just three matches remaining but now they turn their attention to the North Gloucestershire Combination Cup with the 1st Team playing Away at Old Cryptians on Tuesday 27th March
