CHOSEN HILL FP 27 CHELTENHAM 17

Another sunny day saw a big crowd turn up to watch what turned out to be an entertaining match between two fairly evenly matched sides.

Cheltenham had first use of the slope but it was Chosen who took the lead after just two minutes when in-form winger marcus Ballard powered his way over for an unconverted try in the corner.

Cheltenham levelled the scores after 17 minutes with an unconverted try of their own but five minutes later Chosen full back Ashley Lewis crossed for a try which he was unable to convert.

With half time approaching Chosen conjured up a well worked try with winger Ballard coming from the left wing to take the scoring pass on the right and cross the line for a second time. Lewis missed the conversion but Chosen took a 15 - 5 lead into the break.

At the start of the second half injuries to the Cheltenham props meant uncontested scrums and the visitors then crossed for their second try after 50 minutes. The conversion brought them to within three points of the home side and ten minutes later they took the lead for the first and only time with a third try that went unconverted.

Chosen replied in the best possible fashion with winger Scott Claridge winning the ball from the kick-off and setting off deep into Cheltenham territory and when he was finally tackled ten metres from the line debutant hooker Leigh Dangerfield was on hand to collect the pass and barge his way over for a try which Lewis converted.

With time running out Chosen set up one final driving maul and second row Marc Riddel touched down for an unconverted try which gave his side a win by ten points.

Chosen now turn their attention to Tuesday night's County Cup match at home against Drybrook with a 6.30 kick off.
