1sts PROGRESS IN SENIOR VASE COMPETITION WITH HARD FOUGHT VICTORY OVER LISKEARD LOOE

Despite all the recent bad weather this match was able to go ahead after Chairman Dan Yeates organised a pitch recovery operation that saw club members help get the playing surface into a really good condition and as a result a large crowd of supporters from both sides were able to enjoy a typically robust cup match.

Chosen had first use of the Brookfield Road slope and with the wind at their backs got off to a dream start when two minutes into the match, outside half Andy King waltzed through a bewildered Liskeard defence for a try under the posts which he duly converted.

If Chosen thought they could be in for an easy afternoon then they were soon to learn otherwise as the heavy Liskeard pack took control and it came as no surprise when they drew level with a converted try after twenty minutes. Ten minutes later King put his side back in front with a penalty goal but with half time approaching Liskeard, who had enjoyed around 75% possession went in front with a second converted try for a four point interval lead.

Chosen produced a much improved second half performance and a King penalty goal after 50 minutes narrowed the visitors lead to a single point and then on 65 minutes they went back in front when winger Ed Higgs, who was in fine form, worked his way over in the corner for an unconverted try after good approach work from his fellow backs.

Ten minutes later Chosen effectively sealed victory when prop Leigh Dangerfield, who was later awarded "man of the match" barged his way over for a try which King converted for a 25-14 final score.

The result means that Chosen move one step closer to a potential visit to TWICKENHAM, with our next SENIOR VASE match being a HOME SOUTH WEST FINAL fixture against MILTON KEYNES on SATURDAY 14th MARCH - should we win this match then we move onto the SENIOR VASE NATIONAL SEMI-FINALS on SATURDAY 11th APRIL with the FINAL being at TWICKENHAM on SUNDAY 3rd MAY with a 1.00pm kick-off.
