Chosen's recent run of good form continued as they ran out worthy winners of this mid-table clash against visitors Paignton

Another afternoon of fine weather greeted a sizable crowd as Chosen set out to build on last weekend's big away win against Ivybridge, and despite having to make several changes in the back division the Churchdown side displayed their growing confidence with a performance that saw them dominate for the opening sixty minutes.
Playing down the slope, Paignton went immediately on the attack but good Chosen defence held them out and a stalemate situation developed as both sides probed and tested the opposition defence. On ten minutes the stalemate was broken when Chosen were penalised for coming in at the side of a ruck and Paignton outside half John Clare landed the three pointer for the lead.
Chosen soon levelled with an opening penalty goal from skipper Andy King and they took the lead on twenty minutes when a Paignton forward was yellow carded for a deliberate knock on in the red zone and King landed the goal.
On the half hour Chosen scored a wonderful try, created from deep inside their own half by half backs John Wand and King who combined well to create an overlap for full back Adam Claridge to charge up field and then send an inch perfect long pass out to winger Adam Morgan who crossed in the corner. King missed the conversion and minutes later Clare reduced the Paignton deficit to five points with his second penalty goal after Chosen prop Jonny Mullis was sent to the sin bin for an offence at a ruck but Chosen hit back with two further King penalty goals to reach half-time with a 17-6 lead.
On forty two minutes King landed penalty goal number three and, as his side continued to dominate he added further penalty goals on forty five and fifty five minutes.
A minor scuffle broke out resulting in both teams having a forward yellow carded but as the referee had already awarded the penalty to Chosen, King added the three points for a seemingly unassailable 26 - 6 lead.
Paignton had other ideas and hit back with a break away try from their hooker Chris Hallet converted by Clare. Chosen then lost centre Matt Elston to the sin bin and down to just thirteen players on the pitch they faced a difficult final ten minutes.
Paignton made the extra man advantage tell and worked their way into attacking positions that saw Clare land a further two penalty goals to reduce the home side's lead to just seven points but they held out for the win with the result meaning that they swopped places with Paignton, moving up to eighth in the league.
