On a cold but bright afternoon both teams contributed fully to a highly competitive and entertaining match.

Barts had first use of the Brookfield Road slope and also the slight wind advantage but it was Chosen who opened the scoring after ten minutes when they kicked a penalty from just inside the Barts half into the left hand corner and then drove the resulting lineout a full fifteen metres for a fine driving maul try. Number ten Andy King whose original kick had given them the field position narrowly missed with the conversion attempt.
Five minutes later Barts replied with a penalty goal but on the half hour King landed a penalty goal of his own to restore Chosen’s five point lead.
With half time approaching Barts hacked through from near the halfway line and when King, who had chased back to cover the full back spot, slipped as he tried to field the ball it gave the Barts player who was following up the advantage in a race for the line. However King caught up with him but was adjudged to push him off the ball as he tried to collect it and as a result King was sinbinned for ten minutes. Barts landed the resultant penalty goal to make the half time score 8 – 6.
Ten minutes into the second half Chosen scored their second try from a penalty lineout drive with King adding the conversion and on the sixty five minute mark they were awarded a penalty try after a promising attack had the Barts defence in all sorts of trouble and a high tackle was the trigger for the referee to march under the posts and award the try which King easily converted.
Just seven minutes later it was all change as Barts grabbed the initiative and when their promising attacking move was illegally halted, he awarded the match’s second penalty try with the conversion bringing Barts to within nine points of their hosts but they were unable to score again as Chosen’s defence held firm.
So for the third week in a row Chosen have produced a fine team performance and they will look to continue in this mode as they entertain Bristol Harlequins at Brookfield Road next Saturday with the match kicking off at 2.30pm.
