Chosen give all in hard fought clash.

It was a dry autumnal day as Chosen ventured down the M5 to play Avonmouth in a double header, league and cup fixture, Chosen were weakened by the loss of 6 of the original first team.
Avonmouth fielded some big forwards compared to Chosen and it wasn’t long before they gained a penalty from a Chosen scrum, which they kicked for the first points of the game.
Leigh Dangerfield had to leave the field with a rib injury bringing on Dery Sausman, in yellow boots at prop.
Andy King evened the scores with a Chosen penalty.
Avonmouth were in the ascendancy kicking to the corners and winning Chosens lineouts now the hooker was off, after a long period of pressure in the Chosen 22 and some fantastic try saving tackling from Zak, Little Panda and Gydie, we conceded a penalty which meant only 3 points, making the score 6 – 3. Chosens’ backs were the solution to putting points on the board and a great break from our own ‘ratboy’ Darby, saw him carve a line through the defence off loading to a busy Gamble to score, the conversion was missed but it gave Chosen the lead. 6 - 8
Avonmouths full back had a great kick on him pinning Chosen in the corners, and a fragile line out gave them the perfect opportunity to steal the ball, which they did, rumbling around the corner and scoring their first try, making it 11 – 8 at the end of the first half.
After about 5 minutes of the second half the Avonmouth winger went down with a bad injury , meaning the game had to be moved to the next pitch as they had to wait for the ambulance to arrive. This changed the ambience of game as Chosen were looking confident in those first few minutes.
Avonmouth used the kick to the corner and the stolen lineout again to score, the game was getting a little fiery as some high tackles on Knighty our 5 foot, 6 stone 17 year old scrum half did not go down well, it led to a bit of player winkling by Rids, which was seen by an Avonmouth player who proceeded to remove his head with his knee, some say it may have been an improvement, but the outcome was a yellow card for Rids and a red for the Avonmouth player.
Avonmouth scored another penalty which made it 21 – 8 .
Chosens scrums were looking more dominant as the game proceeded, the younger players having more energy, and the technique being perfected.
Rids was back on and Chosen showed that when they had the ball from set plays they could perform, sending ‘ratboy ‘ through the centre, ducking the tackles and striding through to score between the posts, 21 -15.
Chosen were playing a lot better as the game went on, kicking for ground and gaining some ball in the lineouts, Chosen gained a penalty and adventurously kicked for the corner, attacking the Avonmouth backs, stealing the ball and battering at the well organised Avonmouth defence, but they hadn’t counted on our Higgs Boson, who with the speed of light ducked under a tackle and scored, a great kick from Andy King had us on the edge of our heels (we were standing) 21 – 22 with 5 minutes to go!!! From the kick off Chosen missed the catch, giving Avonmouth the ascendency, using their big forwards to drive into Chosen, with the crowd at their backs, whicht seemed to spur them on, and after keeping the ball for many phases and driving on, eventually the size of them led to a try between the posts, 28 – 22 with a few minutes to go, Avonmouth held the ball well within the forward and gave no chance to gain the lead again.
Fulltime.
A great exiting game to watch, with a thought of what ‘might have been ‘ with a bit more weight and experience.
I will always remember the crowd shouting ‘come on the mouth’ til the day I die, which probably wont be long after Medics reads this.!!!!
P.S. the ambulance arrived .
