Ten points to eight down with just 8 minutes remaining, Chosen Hill conjured up a winning score to go top of the table

Matches between the two “Hills” of the North Gloucestershire Combination have always been keenly contested and this one was no different with both sides fully committed to their cause.
A constant drizzle of rain throughout the match meant that handling was likely to be tricky but to their credit, both sides adapted well to the conditions and with first use of the Brookfield Road slope it was the visitors who took the lead in seventeenth minutes when good handling and re-cycling final paid off with an unconverted try in the left corner.
Five minutes later Chosen number ten Andy King landed a penalty goal but Coney Hill, who were enjoying the majority of procession and territory,’ inched further ahead with a second unconverted try after 30 minutes.
With half time approaching Chosen hit back when quick ball from a ruck near the halfway line saw the backs shift the ball out towards the wing where full-back Scott Claridge joined the line at pace and charged over for a try which King was unable to convert but it meant that his side went into the break just two points down.
Despite having the slope advantage, Chosen were unable to stamp their authority on the match and it was the visitors who continued to dominate both territory and possession with the first scoring opportunity of the half coming after sixty minutes when Coney Hill were awarded a penalty but the goal attempt went wide.
A stalemate developed with good defence from both sides, until with just eight minutes left, Chosen HILL grabbed what turned out to be the match winning try. Forwards and backs combined well to take play deep into the visitors half and when winger Ed Higgs got a sniff of the line he scorched over near the posts with King adding the extras to secure victory.
With Chew Valley losing to Keynsham and Avonmouth Old Boys back to winning ways after last week’s shock defeat at Stroud, the result meant that for the second time this season Chosen Hill top the Western Counties North table with 51 points, whilst Avonmouth are second on 50 points and Keynsham third on 48.
Next week Chosen travel to Old Bristolians for their last league match of 2016
