Chosen Hill, playing total 15 man rugby, were in fine form as they completely outplayed visitors Chew Valley who had arrived in second place in the league.

The sun was shining as Chew Valley had first use of the Brookfield Road slope but it was Chosen who opened the scoring after just five minutes when their forwards charged up-field before scrum-half Tom Knight released winger Jamie Gamble who ran an elusive line from just outside the visitors twenty-two brushing off two tackles as he sprinted over for a try converted by outside half Andy King.
Chew Valley had a chance to reduce the deficit on the stroke of half time but the penalty goal attempt drifted wide and the break arrived with Chosen holding a well-deserved 7-0 lead.
With the advantage of the slope, and the sun on their backs, Chosen drove towards the visitor’s line right from the kick-off and when the defence was caught off-side King landed a penalty goal for a 10-0 lead.
Ten minutes later Chosen got their second try when flanker Zack Taylor, who was having a tremendous all-round game, worked the ball out from a maul and crossed wide out but King was unable to add the extras.
Chosen’s third try, scored five minutes later was probably the pick of the day as prop Leigh Dangerfield picked up a loose ball thirty metres out and sprinted for the line, selling a perfect dummy before diving over under the posts with King adding the extras for a 22-0 lead.
Chew Valley continued to press for an opening score but Chosen’s defence was superbly organised and time and again they prevented what looked like certain scores as huge tackles were made at critical moments.
Chosen’s last two tries were both scored by winger Danny Davis, the first after a delightful chip through from King and the second after a steady build up involving both forwards and backs.
The match was kindly sponsored by Shackleton & Wintle (Heating and Plumbing Engineers) and the photo shows Ali McNeil of Shackleton & Wintle with Joint Men of the Match, flanker Zack Taylor and prop Leigh Dangerfield and on the right is Chosen Hill Captain Dan Probin (also of Shackelton and Wintle)
So the 34 – 0 win cemented Chosen’s 8th place in the league and next week they travel to Winscombe for a re-arranged league match
