Torquay took control of the opening exchanges and soon had points on the board courtesy of two penalties from their full back and a converted try from their tight head prop.
Chosen responded with two penalties from Andy King on eighteen and twenty five minutes but the home side went further ahead when weak Chosen defence let in a second Torquay try that was converted to bring the half-time score to 22-6.
Chosen had the better of the second half and after fifty eight minutes number eight Mike King scored a try after a quickly taken tap penalty. Brother Andy converted to give Chosen hope, and when King landed a third penalty goal after sixty two minutes Chosen were right back in the game and just six points adrift.
Pushing for a winning try, Chosen winger Sean Kavanagh tried a chip over the top of his opposite number but the Torquay winger plucked the ball out of the sky and raced sixty metres for a converted try under the posts.
With time running out a Torquay interception saw another converted try and Chosen were left to rue a couple of missed tackles that would have prevented tries and made the scoreline more in line with the general pattern of the match.
