Despite fielding a new back division, Chosen put in a much improved performance over last week but were still unable to secure the win they were after
Injuries and unavailabilities meant that Chosen had to completely re-jig their back division and before they had a chance to gel, Cullompton raced into a fourth minute lead that they were able to hold onto until the final whistle.
On a bright sunny day and playing in front of a large crowd, Chosen edged in front after just three minutes when skipper Andy King landed a penalty goal, but from the re-start they conceeded a penalty and before they had the chance to organise their defence, a quickly taken tap saw the ball shipped to Cullompton second row Rob Lennoy who brushed aside three tackles to score near the posts. Centre Adam Pearce added the conversion to put his side 7-3 up.
A second King penalty after nine minutes narrowed the gap to just one point but a minute later Cullompton re-established their four point lead with a Pearce penalty goal.
When Chosen were penalised for not releasing at a tackle after twenty five minutes, Pearce landed his second penalty goal to increase his side's lead.
However, Chosen were by now playing with much committment and two strikes against the head from their front row of Revell, Dallard and Mellor increased their confidence and momentum to such a degree that they spurned two kickable penalty goal attempts to go for the corner, but on both occassions the home defence held firm and a scoring opportunity was lost.
Half time arrived with no further score but with the match evenly balanced at 13-6 to the home side.
An uneventful second half in which strong defences were the order of the day produced just one score, a penalty goal from Pearce after forty five minutes.
Chosen were pleased with their improved performance and now turn their attention to next Saturday when they entertain league leaders Hartpury College at Brookfield Road.
