Finely balanced at 19 points all at half time, the loss of their entire front row in the second half saw Chosen Hill slip to defeat in Cornwall

Chosen travelled deep into Cornwall for their first ever encounter with St Ives and despite a performance that showed real commitment and team spirit their young team were unable to come away with the win that they worked so hard for.
With heavy rain and winds making playing conditions very difficult St Ives opened the scoring after only six minutes when they won a lineout in the Chosen twenty two and drove the resultant maul over the line for an unconverted try. Five minutes later Chosen cut the deficit to two points with an Andy King penalty goal from the home twenty two.
On twenty minutes, Chosen scum-half Dan Yeates produced a wonderful overhead kick deep into the St Ives twenty two and winger Scott Claridge outstripped the home defence for a try converted by King that put the visitors 10-5 up.
King’s second penalty goal after thirty minutes increased his sides lead but they then lost flanker Ian Riddel to the sin bin after an infringement at a maul and whilst his side were down to fourteen men St Ives produced a converted pushover try that brought them to within one point of their visitors.
With half time approaching King landed penalty goal number three after a St Ives player had pulled him back when attempting a follow up, but then Chosen were hit with a severe blow when St Ives were awarded a penalty try after the referee had twice reset a scrum near the Chosen line. The conversion from in front of the posts was a formality but with three minutes of injury time played King levelled the scores at 19 points all with penalty goal number four.
Not helped by the worsening weather and pitch conditions, the second half developed into a scrappy affair and when Chosen lost Jamie Wilce after 44 minutes, Rich Mellor after 50 minutes and Chris Dallard after 70 minutes it meant that they had lost their entire front row and uncontested scrums became the order of the day.
Despite their committment and effort, all Chosen could muster in the second half was a further King penalty goal and the home side eased to victory with a second try from a set piece scrum move and three more penalty goals.
Chosen now turn their attention to next week's match at Brookfield Road when the entertain Torquay Athletic with a 2.15pm kick-off.
