Disappointment for Chosen as they crash to heavy defeat at Yatton

Yatton 39 Chosen Hill F.P 8

When these two teams met at Brookfield Road back in early October, Chosen had secured a victory and they were looking to start the New Year by doing the double and moving towards the safety of mid-table but nothing went right for them and some clinical finishing from the home side meant that the double was never going to be on.

Yatton went ahead after only six minutes when good interpassing from their slick backs resulted in a converted try. Ten minutes later they increased their lead with a penalty goal but then they had their second row sin binned and Chosen’s Andy King landed the resultant penalty goal for his side’s first points.

A further penalty goal increased the home side’s lead and on the stroke of half time they scored a second try to establish a firm grip on the game and take an eighteen points to three lead into the interval. Chosen lost hooker Chris Dallard at half time and his replacement Rich Mellor lasted just five minutes before he too had to leave the field with a calf injury making a further re-arrangement of the forwards necessary.

Ten minutes into the second half some poor defence allowed Yatton another converted try and just three minutes later another defensive mix up by Chosen let the home side in again when their centre ran right up the touch line from inside his own half to score in the corner.

A brief rally from Chosen saw prop Nick Selway barge his way over for an unconverted try but it was too little too late and on the stroke of full time Yatton’s dangerous backs charged up field again to cross for a fifth converted try.

Results elsewhere meant that Chosen retained their tenth spot in the league on points difference and next week they face another away trip to fifth placed Clevedon.
