Before the kick-off both teams and spectators observed a One Minute's Silence in memory of former Chosen player Rob Bowkett who died suddenly last Saturday at his home in New Zealand.
Chosen had first use of the Brookfield Road slope and after a shaky first couple of minutes they managed to work their way into the visitors half where they remained for most of the opening quarter but despite going close on several occasions they were unable to break down a resolute defence and on twenty five minutes Chew Valley opened the scoring when their speedy full back joined the line near the half way line before selling a dummy and waltzing through several attempted tackles to cross under the posts for a try which he then converted.
Against a well drilled and physical pack Chosen were struggling for decent first phase possession and when they lost a line-out thirty five meters out Chew Valley quickly shipped the ball out along the line for the full back to score his second converted try.
On the stroke of half time winger Scott Claridge landed a penalty goal for Chosen but they went into the second half fourteen points adrift and knowing that they would have to up their efforts to get anything out of the match.
Chew Valley’s third converted try came on the fifty minute mark when their winger finished off another flowing move but ten minutes later Chosen did finally manage to grab a try when replacement winger Nick Tribe dived over near the corner but Claridge was off target with the conversion attempt.
Chosen full back Ashley Lewis missed a penalty goal attempt on seventy minutes and then shortly afterwards Claridge managed to get over the try line but was unable to ground the ball and the opportunity was lost.
Two late converted tries from Chew Valley sealed a convincing victory and Chosen were left to reflect on missed opportunities and the need to turn territory into possession and points.
