The sun was shining and the pitch was in perfect condition as, playing up the slope, Chosen got off to a dream start.
From the kick-off the visitors knocked on and Chosen won the resulting scrum with the ball being quickly shipped out to centre Ed Higgs who accelerated through the visitors defence and raced in from forty metres for a try near the corner. Andy King’s conversion attempt drifted just wide.
After ten minutes, King landed a penalty goal and minutes later winger Dan Peacock outstripped the Harlequins cover for an unconverted try in the corner.
Harlequins got their first points on the board with a penalty goal after twenty five minutes but Chosen quickly hit back as hooker Mike Darby finished off a flowing attack with a fine try. King’s conversion attempt again drifted wide but his side lead 18-3 as half time approached.
Harlequins had the final say of the half with their second penalty goal, and just after the kick-off of the second period they crossed for an unconverted try to make the score 18-11.
Higgs then crossed for his second and Chosen’s bonus point try as he intercepted near his own twenty two and raced down the slope to dot down under the posts. King added the extras for a fourteen point lead.
As the Harlequins defence began to tire Chosen landed try number five when Peacock crossed for his second but King missed with his conversion attempt.
With full time approaching Chosen winger Tom Darby raced down the touch line for his side’s final try but King, who was having an indifferent afternoon with his kicking, hit the post with his conversion attempt.
Overall another fine all round team performance which will give Chosen confidence for their Senior Combination Cup match against Old Centralians on Tuesday evening whilst next Saturday they continue their league action with an away match at Barton Hill.
