Chosen had first use of the Brookfield Road slope and opened strongly with the majority of play being deep inside the visitors half and they thought they had scored after twelve minutes, only to be called back for a forward pass. From the resulting scrum Coney Hill shifted play into the Chosen half and when a Chosen forward was caught offside at a ruck just outside their twenty two, Coney Hill banged over the penalty goal for the opening score.
Chosen’s number ten Andy King levelled the scores on the half-hour mark with a simple penalty goal and it looked as though the sides would go into the half-time break at three points all but in injury time Coney Hill drove a five metre scrum over the line for a converted push over try and a seven point lead.
Coney Hill missed a penalty goal attempt after fifteen minutes of the second half and with the slope in their favour enjoyed the majority of possession and territory but Chosen’s defence was strong and they repelled wave after wave of the visitor’s attacks.
As the match entered the final ten minutes of normal time Chosen camped inside the visitor’s half as the looked for a converted try to level the scores but Coney Hill’s defence managed to keep their line intact and in the fifth minute of injury time they broke away and raced downfield into the Chosen twenty two where they won a lineout and crossed for their second converted try with the referee blowing for full time immediately after the re-start.
