When the two sides met at Brookfield Road earlier in the season Chosen ran out winners by 36-24 but there was to be no repeat victory as the home side, with a big pack and a pacy back three, quickly established the seventeen point lead that was to prove the cushion for their success.
With the match just five minutes old Keynsham’s left wing raced in at the corner for their opening unconverted try and they soon added to it when a big drive from their set piece scrum resulted in an unconverted pushover try.
Worse was to follow for Chosen as they struggled to match the home side in the set piece and a second try from a driving scrum, this time scored near the posts and converted, meant they were seventeen points down with just twenty minutes played.
On twenty five minutes Chosen got some points on the board after their first real concerted attack ended with the home side being penalised in their twenty-two and Andy King knocked over the penalty goal.
With half time approaching Chosen scored again after a good passage of play that saw backs and forwards linking well ended with skipper Tom Gyde powering over for an unconverted try and a 17-8 interval score.
Chosen introduced brothers Marc and Ian Riddel and prop Rich Mellor into their pack for the second half and for a full thirty minutes there was stalemate as Chosen enjoyed lots of territory and procession but failed to convert it into points.
The killer blow for Chosen came with just five minutes of normal time remaining when Keynsham launched a counter attack that ended with a converted try which put them into an unassailable sixteen point lead.
A disappointing result for Chosen but on the day Keynsham were in fine form and their early dominance proved the deciding factor in this encounter.
Next week, Chosen entertain second placed Newent with a 2.15pm scheduled kick-off.
