First cup game Chosen play well, Dan Robinson and Elliott Creed hat tricks as Chosen turn on the power.
It was a fresh morning as Chosen Made their way to Thornbury for the first of their cup matches, Thornbury an unknown quantity as we have not played them before. Thornbury won the toss and decided to kick off. The first 10 minutes Chosen played text book rugby, with tidy rucks and mauls the ball flowing up the pitch,.
Thornbury got into the game attacking Chosens 22, but a stolen ball and some great running from the backs, saw Mikey Graves pop over for the first try.
Chosen backs were on fire now and Fynn McBride was seen scooting around his winger to score, Elliott converted.
Chosen seemed to have more fire in their belly than usual, Dery Sausman driving in and making good use of his size, setting up some great rucks giving Chosen time to move the ball across the field a couple of times, leaving Elliot to snipe a try around the corner of a maul. Chosen took their foot off the pedal and it didn’t take long for Thornbury to realise this, they stepped up their game through the forwards, and after some Chosen missed tackles they scored and converted.
Chosen stepped back into the game with a well worked try, with Tim Rogers popping a ball to Dan Robinson who stretched over for his first, Elliott conversion.
Matt Mills took a lovely kick off, a skill that Chosen had lacked the week before, but it was from a Thornbury clearance kick that saw Chosens next try, Tim picking up the ball, making a lovely inside break moving it to Elliott who kicked across field , seeing Mikey Graves ready to pounce, which he did, sprinting from their 22 over the whitewash, Elliott converted.
The second half saw some changes, this squad is strong throughout. George Tirel was on fire, and stole a ruck ball that had been left behind, and from the ensuing ruck, the ball was spread both sides of the field until Dan Robinson got hold of it, almost passed!!?? Then dived over, Elliott converted.
I think Thornburys heads were down now, they were missing 3 county players and Chosen were playing well, Chosen were on the attack again, and it was a great running angle that saw George dive over by the post, Elliott converted.
Thornbury mounted an attack, kicked the ball into Chosens half and this time they did not secure it, the ball was slipping around like a bar of soap, not that the kids know what that is!!! Eventually we cleared it. Dan Robinson was on his hat trick, and you could tell as he tried to batter through everyone, I’m sure I saw him run in the bar just to bash into something!!!! Anyway his work was rewarded with a try, after the ball was spread wide twice.
Almost from the kick off Tim Rogers took the ball, eluded most of The Thornbury side, off loaded to Elliot who scores and converted.
This game was won by the hard work of the forwards creating a platform for the backs, if we could do this for the whole game we would be a force and a bit!!
